Dump it

Do both, not either

I don't care if I am sad, in the midst of the darkest depressive episode, going through a low, mentally drained… you name it.

The oldest trick in the book is to write a bold statement to start off strong, so I don’t mean it in the literal sense however, what I mean by that is, you won’t catch me living a life led by emotional states.

The tricky part about such a statement, is that it gets confronted with waves of criticism from mental health awareness enthusiasts who are guilty of debilitating empathy. Yes it is okay not to be okay, in fact I cried enough tears in the past 5 years to save Morocco from the risks of drought, yes it is a human experience we will never be immune to, yes it sucks to feel bad, and even life crushing at times, but the sentence “it is okay not to be okay” became so overused that it killed some people’s survival instinct in the face of crisis. Acknowledging your ache should not prevent you from acting to neutralize it, if anything, it should make it easier, but there you are presented with 1000 reasons why you should “get rest” - which often implies, in tiktok terminology, giving up on yourself rather than resting reasonably, with double the amount of people validating it, and far less incentives to take action towards understanding the core of your discomfort and developing efficient coping mechanisms.

With that being said, I am not a fan of robotically walking through life and being a rational control-freak, but as said in the article below, one must “do both, not either”; allow yourself to navigate through the ache, accept it, and never beat yourself up for it but plans must be made and steps must be taken regardless of how shitty you feel, awareness is there to kick you out of denial, not into inactivity.
